Lynnville, TN - Mr. Melvin Wright Hindman, 84, of Lynnville died April 22, 2026, at his residence.


Mr. Hindman was born Dec. 28, 1941 in Giles County. He married the love of his life, Ruby Noveline Uptain, on Aug. 26, 1961, and they shared 63 wonderful years together until her death in 2024. He was a hardworking and devoted family man who took great pride in providing for those he loved. In his early years, he enjoyed hunting and was an avid ham radio operator. He also loved riding and racing motorcycles and had a natural talent for tinkering with all kinds of electronics. He could often be found outdoors, where he felt most at home. Throughout his life, he farmed tobacco for several years, helped build bridges and spent the majority of his career as a crane operator with Uptain Construction. He later retired from the City of Columbia. He is preceded in death by parents, James Andrew "Jim" Hindman and Pauline Hayes Hindman; beloved wife Ruby Uptain Hindman; and son Melvin Hindman Jr.


Visitation will be held Saturday, April 25, from 4-8 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Private graveside services will be held Sunday, April 26, at Polk Memorial Gardens.


Survivors include daughter Dina (Mike) Daniels; grandchildren, Dara (Keith) Crabtree, Fara (Seth) Paul, Chad Brown, Jordan Hindman; great-grandchildren, Preslee Crabtree, Emeree Crabtree, Kade Brown, Isley Kate Hindman, Rhett Paul; sister Elizabeth Holt; and several nieces and nephews.
